3-and-4-Player Gates

When playing with more than 2 boards, each board becomes its own distinct map area, with a larger Gate Space between these boards. You may move between boards by treating the Gate space as a full space that is adjacent to every other space along the gate edge of each board, but you may not attack or use abilities through the Gate Space. The following rules clarify this concept:

  • When moving out of or through the Gate Space you may move to any square or squares in the first row adjacent to the Gate Space on any board, and your arrival square does not need to correspond to the one you left. The space you arrive at must not be occupied by a Fighter.

  • A character that moves fully into the Gate Space during movement, may not move back into the board they came from (i.e. you may not use the Gate Space as a shortcut to move to another space on the same board).

  • If your figure takes up multiple spaces, it must move fully into the Gate Space before emerging onto another board. A multiple space figure may end its turn with some of its footprint in the Gate Space and some on a particular board, that figure is considered to be entirely on the board where some of its footprint is located.

  • For the purposes of scoring coins by being in the Gate the rule is modified: a Fighter adjacent to the Gate Space, but NOT on their home board fulfills these requirements in a 3 or 4 board game.

  • No Fighter may Attack or use abilities through the Gate Space or into the Gate Space. No Fighter in the Gate Space may use abilities or Attack. Abilities that allow you to move Fighters may not be used to move a Fighter into or through the Gate space.

  • Fighters that are in the Gate Space at the end of any turn are immediately moved onto an adjacent space on a board of that Fighter’s choice. This follows all the rules for movement through gates, for example they cannot return to a board they were already on this turn.

  • Multiple Characters may be in the Gate Space at the same time. They may not Attack each other or use abilities on each other.
